Every week Stew and I try and find a healthy way to make some of our favorite indulgent meals that we can share with our STUDIO2 and MindBody Dr. Family and Friends. While there are certainly some things that are never going to be as good as the “real” thing…Whole Milk Mozzarella Pizza, an Angus Burger on a Pretzel Bun, Authentic Mexican…we always amaze ourselves at the tastes and flavors we are able to replicate using healthy alternatives.

I wanted to share with you some of our most recent attempts at replicating guilty pleasures….Pizza and Burgers/Fries.

Last Friday we had a Pizzaaah Party!

Ingredients and Prep:

1 FlatOut Artisan Pizza Crust (we used Spicy Italian)

1/2 Cup 2% Shredded Mozzarella

4 oz. Ground Turkey, seasoned to taste

1 Cup Sauteed Peppers and Mushrooms

Handful of Fresh Spinach

1/4 Cup Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes

Preheat oven according to crust instructions. Cook ground turkey fully, seasoning to taste. Saute peppers and mushrooms until just short of done (they will finish cooking in the oven). Drain excess liquid. Top flatbread with spinach, diced tomatoes and then additional toppings. The spinach will help shield the flatbread from getting too soggy. Cook for 10 minutes or less…crust will crisp quickly.

Our second indulgence was a Burger and Fries! We watch too many episodes of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives and have been CRAVING a good burger. Unfortunately, between the bun, the 80/20 Ground Beef most restaurants use, and the deep fried french fries, it rarely fits the Macros.  So, last night we recreated our own Artisan Burgers. Not Bad, I must say!



1 Arnold’s Multigrain Sandwich Thin

4oz (Stew had 6oz…so you can adjust based on protein/fat needs) 93/7 Lean Ground Beef

1 Slice Reduced Fat Colby Jack Cheese

2 Slice Fresh Tomato

3 Bread and Butter Pickles

13 Baked OreIda Seasoned Crinkle Fries (Again…Stew had 2 Servings of fries, depends on your numbers!)

Top with Spicy Mustard and Onions Sauteed in Olive Oil Cooking Spray 🙂

Remember…you do not have to give up the things you love to reach your performance goals. It is about creativity, a shift in perspective and learning to love eating clean and healthy. Its Just No BSSure, there is a time to blow it out on a “Real” pizza or a juicy diner burger and fries, but in the meantime while you are working toward your goals just experiment at home wealth healthy alternatives. You might surprise yourself and like your own version better than the real thing.
